The award scheme, which was set up in 2001, aims at giving recognition and encouragement to young people who seek to pursue their development potential by undertaking a course of technical training and a period of formal apprenticeship in certain trades under the Apprenticeship Ordinance, Chapter 47 of the Laws of Hong Kong.
For 2024/25, awards are granted to four outstanding apprentices - two at the craft level and two at the technician level who complete their period of apprenticeship at one of these levels.
The value of each award for 2024/25 is HK$5,000.
Candidates should:
- be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong) with right of abode or Hong Kong residents with the right to land or permitted to stay in Hong Kong without restriction;
- be registered apprentices and complete their apprenticeship during the year;
- be fully worthy of nomination as assessed by their overall performance during their apprenticeship training and their effort on continuous learning and contribution to the society; and
- not have been selected for similar awards.
The Director of Apprenticeship will be invited to nominate four outstanding apprentices for the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Outstanding Apprentice Awards - two at the craft level and another two at the technician level.
The results of the awards will be announced in around February / March. The Director of Apprenticeship will be notified of the results.
The award monies will be paid after the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund Council has decided on the awards. This will be remitted to the award recipients by cheques through the Vocational Training Council.
A certificate will be presented to each award recipient at the Awards Presentation Ceremony scheduled for March / April.
