The scheme offers prizes to encourage senior secondary school students in government, aided, direct subsidy scheme, per caput grant, private and English Schools Foundation schools; and students of equivalent level of study at the Vocational Training Council (VTC) in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong) in attaining a high standard of learning abilities and developing leadership qualities.
- For secondary school nominees
The prizes are awarded on a school basis. For the 2024/25 academic year, each school is allocated two prizes for the students from the graduating form, i.e. Senior Secondary 3 / Secondary 6 or Grade 13, provided that the nominees meet the selection criteria of the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund Council.
- For Vocational Training Council nominees
For the 2024/25 academic year, twelve prizes are awarded to students who are undertaking full-time subvented programmes pegged at Senior Secondary 3 / Secondary 6 level, and will have completed at least one full year of study of such programme in the 2024/25 academic year, provided that the nominees meet the selection criteria of the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund Council.
The value of each prize for the 2024/25 academic year is HK$1,000.
Candidates for the prizes should:
- possess Hong Kong Identity Cards;
- have resided in Hong Kong for at least three years;
- be full-time students from the graduating form at any government, aided, direct subsidy scheme, per caput grant, private or English Schools Foundation schools or VTC; and
- be recommended by school principals / Executive Director of VTC.
School principals / Executive Director of VTC will normally be invited in August / September each year to make nominations from the eligible candidates of the relevant academic year.
School principals / Executive Director of VTC will be informed of the results in around February / March of the relevant academic year.
Prize money will be paid after the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund Council has decided on the awards. This will be remitted to schools / VTC which will be requested to make disbursement to the successful candidates.
A certificate will be awarded to each prize winner at the Awards Presentation Ceremony scheduled for March / April.
