Student Loan Repayers to Resume Loan Repayments from April 2025
To ease the financial burden of student loan repayers (except defaulters against whom legal recovery actions have been taken) amidst the COVID-19 epidemic, the Government has been providing interest-free deferral of loan repayment (deferral arrangement) for five years from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2025 (suspension period). New loan repayers with loan repayments activated upon graduation or completion of study during the suspension period are also eligible for the deferral arrangement. All eligible student loan repayers do not need to repay the principal and instalment interest payable during the suspension period.
The deferral arrangement will end on 31 March 2025 and interest accrual will accordingly resume from 1 April 2025. Charging of the annual administrative fee will also resume for all loan repayment accounts under non-means-tested loan schemes.
Notifications for resumption of loan repayment and the repayment schedules will be issued to repayers in January 2025.
