Overview

The Student Travel Subsidy (STS) for Tertiary or Post-secondary Students provides travel subsidy to eligible students attending a full-time day course up to first degree level in an acceptable institution.

Result & Payment Arrangements

  • The travel subsidy will normally be disbursed two months after the release of the Tertiary Student Finance Scheme – Publicly‐funded Programmes (TSFS) or Financial Assistance Scheme for Post‐secondary Students (FASP) assistance. The travel subsidy will be disbursed by autopay by instalments or in one lump sum, and credited into the bank account specified in the application form. #

    1. For institutions with hostel accommodation / exchange programme / placement

      • As the residence / study status of the applicant will directly affect whether and how the Student Finance Office (SFO) will disburse the travel subsidy to the applicant, it is necessary for the SFO to confirm whether the applicants are hostel / exchange / placement students in the first semester before disbursing the first instalment of the travel subsidy. The SFO will disburse the remaining balance to the applicants after receiving the list of hostel / exchange / placement students for the whole school year from the institutions.

    2. For institutions without hostel accommodation / exchange programme / placement

      • After confirming the course information with the institutions, the SFO will disburse the subsidy to the applicants in one lump sum. In case the course information is not yet available, the SFO may need to arrange disbursement to the applicants by instalments.

  • The list of institutions with STS disbursement to their students will be posted onto this page (please see below) from time to time. Separately, the Student Finance Office (SFO) will send SMS messages to the successful applicants according to the mobile phone numbers provided in their applications to notify them that the travel subsidy has been disbursed by autopay.

  • The SFO will re-calculate the entitlement of travel subsidy of the applicants concerned according to the updated information provided by institutions. The applicants concerned may be required to refund any overpaid subsidy.

  • The SFO bears no responsibility for any erroneous entry made by applicants. Any such errors may cause delay in receipt of payment. Any bank charges incurred due to such errors will have to be borne by the applicants concerned.

  • If the disbursement to an applicant by autopay has been rejected due to incorrect bank account information in the application form, the SFO will contact the applicant concerned to update the bank account information.

  • The SFO will separately notify applicants of unsuccessful application.
